Blog Killer...

I've seen comments about Facebook being a blog killer. Some don't understand the fascination and some wonder why others are cheating on them with Facebook. I won't name any names, but you know who you are :) I have been a very bad blogger lately and it could be due to my addiction with Facebook. It could also be my lack of feeling like I have anything worthy of posting other than my weekly training, which can be kind of boring to tell you the truth.

I ran the Yours Truly 50k today in 4:56:15 with a negative split of 3 minutes and 30 seconds. I focused on my run/walk ratio that I plan on using at the Pac. Rim 24 hour race in March and also on my Gu strategy. I took a GU every 20 minutes for 6 hours and then I couldn't handle it anymore. Why 6 hours you ask? Well, I Yo-Yo'd out and back so that I could run the last stretch with Michelle. I ended up with 40 miles for the day and 101 for the week. It helped that I was on break this week as well.

Training is good and I love having a coach to tell me what to run each week. It may not work for some, but it is working well for me. Other than that, I feel bad for not keeping up with everyone. I will make it my mission to catch up with everyone this week, but I apologize in advance.

Happy Running!

I am trying my best to not open a facebook account but the pressure is on from a lot of peeps :-(

Good job on the 50 k and run/walk ratio practice...OK here is a tip on GU or any type of Gels, get a few plain or non-flavor gels to help close out the race (this will help u with the march 24 hour) when u can't handle anymore sweet sugary tasting crap:-(

this tip was passed on to me from Jamie Donaldson, she does all liquids like me and she said going to non-flavored gels at the end of a race made it easier to handle them and close it out.

Hey Rob,

Excellent to see the results from 'YT 50k".

I have been struggling with the same thoughts on posting training and results, but for someone like me that has ultra ambitions, it is such a great resource to read what is working or not working with other ultra runners. This is true with nutrition, strategy, life-work-training balance, gear, and training.

One other reason I write is to keep the pump primed for other writing activities. As a writing and Literature person, the blog is a great place to publish to an audience, as small as it seems sometimes.

Cheers!

Great to see the coach is paying off. I imagine Facebook is a bit of a 'time waster' (much like blogging sometimes). Too little time in the day to get around everywhere on the net eh.

I'd have to say my iTouch RSS feed is a comment killer, because I'll read the blog, but not be able to comment and forget to go back!

I hear ya about FB being addicting! :)

Sounds like you had a great running week. Glad the coach is working out well for you!

Keep in touch when you can. You have an interesting site. Does your coach use the carrot or a stick to make you do 100 mile weeks? Nice work!

I'm with Donald. I'd love to hit a 100-mile week. At least once! Nice going on the negative split. I too have been spending a lot of time on Facebook. It's definitely fun, what with all the updates, notes and pictures. Very easy to send a quick note to someone you haven't seen in awhile. Great way to keep in contact with those out of state and out of the country too. .

Re FB: yeah -when's Eric gonna update his blog?? Oh wait - maybe you meant me! I have a post sitting in my edit page that is now two weeks old. Bad girl! My issue is it takes so friggin' long to upload photos (okay - we have a dinosaur connection). But now I'm motivated to get that post done so I can move on to others. Glad to see SOME of us are keeping up to date...

when i got of Fb, i didn't find that i had more time. i still had articles i shared. shared them before Fb, too. i realised that i had to go back to writing individual emails with each article, photoalbum, funny video that i sent. i also was uncomfy. if i send you an article about xyz, i feel like i'm being pushy: READ THIS! if i post it on my own Fb wall, then people can read it if and when they wanted.

maybe because i'm an immigrant, i rely on this more than others. all i know is that i lost more time being off it.

you'll get over the initial rush. and you can link your posts to your Fb, so we can see that you did another one.

Fb will never really replace blogging. you'll just learn to merge.

Yeah FB does seem alot easier then blogging these days.

Nice job on the 50k, 101 miles for the week, I don't even ride my bike that far these days.

As a Facebook addict myself I think everyone with a blog and Facebook account should feed their blog entries into Facebook (to make my life easier :)

I set up my Facebook notes to import entries every time I Post to my blog. It works well!

Thanks for doing dog miles at YT and running the last NINE with me. It was fun - I've missed your comapany. Sorry to be getting to this so late...I'm behind on all blogging, and yes, FB has a part in that.

Dear Rob:
I know I haven't posted on your blog in months, but that doesn't mean I'm not reading it. Besides, as a believer that FaceBook is only a more socially accepted form of life-sucking, relationship-destorying games like SecondLife, Warcraft, etc., some of us are still holding out on Facebook and keeping posted on our friends via Blogger. So, please keep posting!

Sincerely,
SS
:-)

P.S. I will also try to be a better blogger.

Stay true to your roots, I say. Blogging is a huge time suck for me already, there is no room for FB in my future. I'd miss my blogger buds if I gave it up.

FB is a thief to be sure. Starts off harmlessly enough and eventually elbows into most everything you know. Congrats on the big miles week. You're ready for most anything I figure.
